What does health mean to you?
I think it's quite important to question our ideas of health. Health is often linked to a physical image when actually it's so much more than that.
Health is a state of mental, physical and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease. Good health should encourage physical, psychological, emotional, social and economic well-being and all too often it is considered to be the way we look.
It's not surprising that when people are striving to be "healthy" they often don't succeed and that's because they're only considering one aspect. Many strive to be fit and 'eat well' but what good is that if you're battling anxiety, feeling lonely or have a poor relationship with food?
Next time you're setting goals to "be healthier" stop and think about your life as a whole. How are you feeling emotionally and responding to certain situations in life? Consider your mental state, social life, career achievements and THEN look at your physical self.
Over the last couple of years and particularly in the last 10 months, I've learnt to understand the meaning and importance of creating a life that feels good on the inside as well as on the outside.Balance, mindfulness, sleep, recovery and hydration, all of those little things that often get pushed aside, have helped me feel better than ever.
Health is not a shape or size, its about how you feel as an individual. I'm not perfect and healthy 100% of the time but I do strive to live the healthiest if I can. Through focusing on more than just one aspect of health, you'll progress, succeed and feel amazing every day.
